CARING FOR YOUR CANDLE

If you're a candle lover, you know that candles and wicks can be tricky!  Here's some tips to get the most out of your newly purchased candle.

Lighting Your Wick

After much trial and error SHC&S determined that Cherry Wood Wicks are the least likely to have a black smoke problem. However, these wicks aren't totally infallible. Please do not get discouraged, as it may take several times of lighting the wick for it to stay lit.

PREVENT BLACK SMOKE

SHC&S uses Cherry Crackle Wood Wicks to help prevent black smoke. Here are some other helpful hints:

  • Make sure your wick is only 1/4 inch long prior to burning.

  • Keep candle away from any draft.

  • After a burn, remove excess burnt wick.

2-3 HOURS PER BURN TIME

On the first burn, make sure to leave the candle lit for approximately 2 hours.  This will give the candle time to make an even pool from the center to the edge of the candle.  This will also help preserve the life of the candle for the optimum candle experience.

NEVER LEAVE A LIT CANDLE

Our number one priority at Sea Hippy Candles and Soap is FIRE SAFETY! Once your candle is lit, NEVER leave it unattended. Keep candle on a fireproof surface free of debris, curtains, or edges that could result in the candle falling.
